Surrendering a Rottweiler to ARRF

This page will explain what ARRF requires for a pet to come into our program. This information does not apply to dogs currently in shelters.

If you are the owner of the Rottweiler
and for one reason or another can no longer keep your pet, these are the requirements:

1- The pet must be in NC or you must be willing to transport to NC
2 - Your pet must be up to date on vaccines
3 - Your pet must be heartworm tested and have a fecal exam
4 - Your pet must be spayed/neutered

If your pet does not meet the above criteria, you will have to make proper arrangements so that the animal does meet the criteria before we can assist you with placement. There are several low cost avenues listed here : Low Cost Spay & Neuter Once your pet meets the initial criteria, we will need to schedule a temperament evaluation. If your pet is aggressive, we will not be able to place it for you.

In addition, we have a very limited number of foster homes which are usually full with dogs saved from kill shelters. You will probably have to "foster" your dog while we look for a suitable new home. Please be prepared for this. If you are willing to work within these guidelines, please email us with the subject as "Owner Surrender" for proper delivery and copy/paste all of the following information:

If you are contacting us because your pet is in need of medical care that you can not afford, we recommend contacting the agencies listed here: Vet Care
funding opportunities. ARRF does not have a surplus of funds to donate to pet owners. We wish more people donated to Rottweiler Rescue so that this was not the case. If you find this information helpful and are able to care for your Rottweiler, we ask that you keep ARRF in mind for a tax deductible donation in the future and remind other Rottweiler lovers of the great need for donations.

If you are aware of a Rottweiler being abused or neglected by its owner, there are a couple of options:

1 - If you are willing to take on the dog as your responsibility, you may be able to talk to the owner and see if they will give you the dog. This is at your own risk, ARRF does not accept any liability for your actions if you choose to pursue this. Some owners will not be receptive to your offer to assist. Also, keep in mind that dogs coming from an unstable environment like this will likely require considerable work on your part to rehabilitate and may have illnesses/parasites that can be costly to treat. If you do take on the dog, please see "
If you are the owner of the Rottweiler" above for information on how we can help you with placement.

2 - Contact Dogs Deserve Better for advice and possible assistance with educating the owner.

3 - Contact your local Humane Society
for advice and possible assistance.

4 - Contact your local animal control. **Keep in mind that Rottweilers are not adopted out by many animal shelters and if the Rottweiler is taken by animal control, they may very well euthanize the dog** Please use this option with care and ask questions when you call so that you can make an informed decision.
