Found a Stray Rottweiler?

We hope the owner is actively searching for their lost pet. We recommend that you do all of the following immediately to try and reunite the family with their pet:

-- Take the dog by a veterinary clinic or animal shelter to have it scanned for a micro-chip.

-- Contact all shelters, veterinary clinics, rescue groups, humane societies, etc. in the area to list the dog as found and to see if anyone has reported the dog as lost.

-- Print up and place fliers in the surrounding area where the dog was found in. A dog can easily travel several miles. **Be sure to exclude any unique marks from the information. This will allow you to weed out false claims**

-- Place a found ad in the newspaper(s) in the area the dog was found in. This service is usually free.
**Be sure to exclude any unique marks from the information. This will allow you to weed out false claims**

-- Visit our page Lost & Found for a large list of lost pet websites you can post to.
**Be sure to exclude any unique marks from the information. This will allow you to weed out false claims**

-- Email us a copy of the flier or newspaper posting to forward to lost & found message lists. Please be sure to put Found Stray in the subject of your email for proper delivery.

If you have no luck in locating the owner after doing the previous, visit
Surrendering a Rottweiler to ARRF and read "If you are the owner of the Rottweiler" for information on how we can assist you. (Proof of found ad having been run in newspaper may be required.)

If you cannot keep the dog while trying to locate its owner you should:

Either try to board the dog at a vet or turn the dog over to the animal shelter which is where most people look for a lost pet.

If you place the dog with a shelter let us know. We will need to know the "release" date and euthanasia date if it is a "kill" shelter. If it does not get reclaimed/adopted, we will try to pull the animal if we have a foster home available.
